Your Stories: Bruce Wang and One Brick, making a difference in Florida
posted by Citizen You Blog Team on May 26, 2010
When CitizenYou.org launched, we asked you to tell us about the new ways you have been finding to make a difference in your community. The response we've gotten has been amazing.
Bruce Wang from Florida wrote to tell us about the non-profit chapter that he founded:
One Brick is a great place to give people the tools to be successful in volunteering. I founded the Orlando Chapter in Feb. 2010 making it the 7th national chapter. We have chapters in San Francisco, New York, Seattle, MLPS, Chicago, Washington DC, and New Orleans is the upcoming 8th.
What makes us truly unique is that we are 100% Volunteer run on the local level. We only have one part-time paid staff. With about $150,000 annual budget we've created over $1.5 Million Dollars in value through volunteering. How do we do this? We make it ridiculously easy and fun to get involved.
All of our events are highly social and signing up is just a click away on our website. No orientation, no background checks, no long-term commitments, NO HASSLES. Just volunteering.
Congratulations to Bruce and the team at One Brick for the amazing work that you do. Read more about One Brick here, and make sure to check the Citizen You blog to read more stories shared by the Citizen You community.
(And, of course, if you haven't yet -- take a second to share your own story now!)
